Luncheon
Brings
Members
Together
by Pauline Luther, State President |
| President Lisa Connelly welcomed the 115 attendees to our luncheon. We all enjoyed a tasty triple salad plate. As you can see, all members enjoyed being together and meeting new friends. Jenny Black, FACE representative to the Department of Education spoke about how FACE members can help to bring State Legislators the message of supporting Educational Technology. She reported about the EETT grant and the T3 funding initiatives that are being implemented |
Our keynote speaker was Hillary Goldman, Director of Government Affairs, ISTE – ETAN, Ed Tech Action Network. Hilary brought us up to speed regarding the Federal funding (or lack of it), and the trend to reduce technology education monies at the Federal level. She explained that Congressmen often do not understand the role that technology plays in classrooms. She encouraged the FACE membership to use email, |
|
| fax, or phone their wishes to their congressman. Due to all letters needing to be irradiated because of anthrax, letters may be delayed sometimes up to 8 weeks. Sometimes the irradiation makes the letters hard to read. Therefore, it is imperative that we as FACE members contact our congressmen and women to voice our concerns. Many members filled out contact sheets for ETAN and will forward the urgent messages that Hillary sends via email. |

Don Knezek, PhD, CEO of ISTE spoke about ISTE’s role in technology education and our association's relationship. He reminded us that FACE members receive reduced ISTE membership prices. He introduced Susan Hair, the Program Director, Affiliate Membership Program. Susan explained how ISTE contacts and works to help all Affiliates of ISTE join with ETAN to work together to make Instructional Technology stronger in Florida. |
FACE President Lisa Connelly introduced and installed the Officers for the 2005-06 year. You can see a list of officers at http://facenet.org/officers.htm. Flo McGee then presented items to express thanks to the board members for their hard work. She also recognized those past board members in the audience. Our FACE heritage includes a strong line of great leaders. |
FACE Leader of the Year Award was then presented to Jeanine Gendron, PhD, Director of the Department of Instructional Technology, Broward County Schools. Jeanine spoke to us about staff development and why it is important that FACE provide in-service training to teachers. She is donating the cash award to the Wish foundation for cancer victims.
