One of the best

some of the best teachers in the state!
Region V is hosting an Academy November
4 in Oldsmar, Florida (Pinellas County
near the Hillsborough border). Check

Awards
FACE Multimedia
Award for college students
Graduate and undergraduate Florida students
can submit a multimedia project for
the FACE multimedia award. The project,
intended to improve the education of
students at any level, PK-grade 12,
must be created in an undergraduate
or graduate level technology course
that focuses on the integration of technology
and curriculum. The project must be
nominated by the professor for whom
the project was completed. The
nomination form can be downloaded here.
The winner receives
a $100 award and will be announced at
FETC 2007 in late January. The winning
entry will be considered for posting
on the FACE website. The deadline is
Friday, Jan. 5, 2007. Students who are
nominated must be members of FACE.

Tech Teacher & Leader of the Year
Awards
Application forms are now available
for Florida
Ed Tech Leader and Florida
Ed Tech Teacher of the Year. Winners
will be announced at the Annual FACE
Luncheon during FETC and receive a beautiful
plaque and cash prize of $300. The deadline
for submission is Dec.
1, 2006.
The winner of
the Florida Ed Tech Leader of the Year
in 2006 was Dr. Jeanine Gendron of Broward
County Public Schools. Her nomination
was submitted to ISTE in the national
competition for ed tech administrator
of the year, and she was among the runners
up for this prestigious national award.
Two years ago the Florida Ed Tech Teacher
of the Year, Deb Singer of Miami-Dade,
was named the national Teacher of the
Year by ISTE.
FACE
goes to NECC 2007
FACE will be
very involved with NECC 2007 in Atlanta,
June 24-27. Floridians can reserve in
a preferred hotel at Atlanta after Nov.
2 through the online NECC registration.
Stay tuned for a special event for FACE
members at NECC.
FACE members
will be able to register for a discounted
rate of $225, or only $155 for people
who are members of both FACE and ISTE,
until April 27, 2007.
FACE is establishing
a relationship with a similar organization
in Australia. Some of their members
will attend NECC 2007 and hope to meet
new ed tech friends from Florida there.

FACE members
will get twice monthly e-newsletter
with info on grants, competitions, free
and inexpensive items, great websites
and more. The information is compiled
and edited by The
Big Deal Book
and provided through the affiliate relationship
with FACE. Members who do not wish to
receive this bi-monthly e-newsletter
can opt out.
Volunteer
to be a FACE leader
FACE is looking
for a few good leaders to work with
instructional technology in local, regional
or state offices, and you could be just
that person in 2007. The executive board
meets by conference call twice a year
and has a great deal of email communication.
The board usually meets the Saturday
and Sunday before the FAEDS September
conference and briefly at FETC.

FACE
active at FETC 2007 in January 24-26
The Florida Educational
Technology Conference (FETC), of which
FACE is a sponsoring organization, will
be in the South Complex of the Orange
County Convention Center on Jan. 24-26,
2007.
Come see your board members in action
in these workshops and conference sessions.
• Region IV president Dianna Holden
will present a workshop from 8-11 a.m.
on Thursday, “Creative Beginnings
with Adobe Photoshop,” and then
from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, from “Beyond
the Basics with Adobe Photoshop.”
These cost $125 each and must be preregistered.
• Webmaster Rick Reece will present
a workshop from 8-11 a.m. on Wednesday,
“Podcasting Blogs and RSS…All
Made Simple,” and from 12-3 p.m.
on “Music: Don’t Copy it,
Create It.” These cost $125 each
and must be preregistered.
• President-Elect Flo McGee will
present “Wikis, Blogs, & Podcasting,
Oh My!”
• President Pauline Luther will
present “Podcasting Using Newspapers
in Science.”
• ISTE Representative Rita Oates
and Region VI President Angela Choate
will present “Harnessing Ed Tech
Resources in After School Programs.”
